BHM SLPS BOE

  • Spread the word

I have 1,000 campaign business cards in hand from union printer The Ink Spot. They were designed by the one, Z only, Ken Zarecki. Let me know if you’d like some to pass out to city voters.

My list of individual endorsements is coming along. I’m grateful to be backed by such a stellar crew.

To help aggregate posts about my campaign and elevate their visibility on social media, use the hashtag #marstonforschoolboard.

  • 2024 wrap-up

I closed out 2024 with a total of $2,331 in campaign contributions (thank you!) and 1,084 page views on this site. 79% of the website traffic has been from people on mobile devices (phones). Something no one except Google and I care about is that the site is rocking it on PageSpeed Insights. (I’ve never seen a site get 4 x 100% before.)

  • Why I use my middle initial

I’m Brian Henry Marston. My dad is Richard Henry. His dad was Henry Arnold. His dad was Henry Joseph. My son is Milo Henry. The “H” is a reminder of those who came before me and those coming after me. It also helps disambiguate me from the other Brian Marstons out there in search results.

  • Candidate forum

I’m looking forward to participating in the conversation at the candidate forum on Wednesday, January 8, at 7 pm at Legacy Bar & Grill (5249 Delmar Blvd / 63108). It’s co-sponsored by the Green Party of St. Louis, American Federation of Teachers Local 420, Community One Project, Organization for Black Struggle, Universal African Peoples Organization, and Coalition with STL Kids.

Update: The forum has been cancelled due to weather conditions.

  • Careful spending

A few examples of my frugality, in contrast to some other people:

    • I’ve had the same wallet since 2008.
    • I cut my own hair. I also repair my own appliances.
    • My wife and I share one car, a 2014 Toyota Prius we bought in 2019.
    • I have an iPhone X that I bought used in 2019 and an $8/month service plan from Tello.
    • I’ve never flown first class and have no desire to.
  • Fundraising update

I’ve received a total of $520 in campaign contributions from seven donors. Thank you!

  • SLPS has all the feels

Today, I attended the winter concert at an SLPS elementary school (a joyful celebration) and a St. Louis Public Radio community listening session about the district (an intense discussion).

  • Making a list and checking it twice

  • Day One

I filed to run for a position on the St. Louis City Board of Education today. The election is Tuesday, April 8, 2025. City voters will be choosing three candidates for four-year terms on the seven-person board. I’ll be listed second on the ballot.

Democracy requires a lot of paperwork.
I drew lucky number 7 in the first-day filing lottery.
The Board of Election Commissioners sends you home with a 36” x 44” map of the city to hang on the wall of your war room and a burned DVD of registered voter data. Does anyone have a computer with a DVD drive?
    I do.
